Following his appearance at the Xidan Joy City retail store in Beijing and meetings with Chinese government officials earlier this week, Bloomberg now reports that Apple CEO Tim Cook has also toured a new iPhone production facility in Zhengzhou, China.Apple Inc. Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook visited Foxconn Technology Group’s newly built manufacturing facility for the iPhone in Zhengzhou, China, as the U.S. company seeks to improve working conditions.
The iPhone production line is at the new Foxconn Zhengzhou Technology Park, which employs 120,000 people, Carolyn Wu, a Beijing-based Apple spokeswoman, said in an e-mail today. She didn’t provide other details on Cook’s visit or say how much longer he’ll be in China after having held high-level talks in Beijing earlier this week.

China is a key location for Apple for a number of reasons, including its role in manufacturing and assembly, a desire to focus on expansion in the market there, and intellectual property issues. Cook’s trip appears to be addressing most of these aspects, demonstrating continued concern over working conditions in its manufacturing partners’ plants while also working to build relationships with key political and business figures in the country.

Several readers have noticed the appearance of ‘iTunes Producer 2.6′ in their OS X Software Update. iTunes Producer is Apple’s submission tool for music (and books) to the Apple iTunes Store.iTunes Producer: This free software application allows you to prepare your music for direct delivery to iTunes. Use it to encode your music in AAC format; enter album, song, and cover art information; and send your prepared files directly to Apple for consideration. The appearance has generated some confusion amongst users who are unfamiliar with the software, suggesting it may have been inadvertently pushed to unintended users via Apple’s OS X Software Update mechanism.
iTunes Producer is also the publishing software for iBooks Author books, so the update may be detecting users who have simply installed iBooks Author as well. When publishing books from iBooks Author, users are required to register for an iTunes Connect account in order to download the iTunes Producer software.

A series of last-minute rumors and speculation are suggesting that the iPad 3 might include haptic technology that would give on-screen objects texture. The rumors have linked Finnish company Senseg with Apple and have been fueled by Apple’s media event invitations carrying the tagline “We have something you really have to see. And touch.”

While speculation about Senseg and Apple has been floating under the radar for some time and a rationale for it was posted in our forums last week, The Guardian was the first major source to put forward the specific claim yesterday, noting that conversations with Senseg executives earlier this year left The Guardian with the impression that the company was indeed working with Apple. When the Guardian met Senseg’s chiefs in their Helsinki offices in January, its directors declined to say whether they had spoken to Apple about the use of the technology in the iPad – but said they were talking to tablet manufacturers. [...]
But asked this week whether Apple is a customer for the E-Sense technology, Petri Jehkonen, Senseg’s technical marketing manager, declined to comment. Asked whether Apple is not a customer, he replied: “That would be for Apple to say. My comment is no comment.”The Next Web has also put together a speculative piece suggesting that haptic feedback could indeed be making an appearance on the iPad 3.The bits and pieces that I’ve managed to uncover are tantalizing and have led me to believe that at least one major new feature that we have not seen before on an Apple device before will make an appearance on the new tablet.
I’ll be honest up front: I have been unable to nail down exactly what it is. [...]
The most tantalizing and attractive possibility I could come up with was the introduction of a touch-feedback technology for the iPad’s display. The report continues with a reasoned analysis of how Apple may have been able to quietly include the technology in the iPad 3 and the unobtrusive nature of the haptic technology itself that could have been kept behind the scenes.
And now Pocket-lint is weighing in with its own claims, once again pointing to quotes from Senseg executives as hints that the company may be working with Apple.”We won’t be making any statements until after Apple’s announcement,” a company spokesman told Pocket-lint with a timing that’s just too obvious to be anything else after we asked them the direct question of whether Senseg is involved in the iPad 3 launch. The report also links back to a Trusted Reviews report from June 2011 in which Senseg claimed it was working with “a certain tablet maker based in Cupertino.”
Apple has certainly expressed interest in haptic technology in the past, as evidenced by patent applications on the company’s ideas. But specific rumors about incorporating the technology into iOS devices have been essentially non-existent until now. With just a few hours to go until Apple’s media event, observers don’t have long to wait to find out if the last-minute claims are true.

If you are feeling nostalgic or just have some time to kill, you can now re-live every single advert that Apple has made for its iPhone device. The iPhone was first introduced back in 2007 and the first advert to hit our screens was called “Hello”. It made its first appearance during the night of the Oscars and featured scenes with famous actors all on the phone. Apple has continued to produce some great ads for the iPhone and that number has now reached a staggering 84 to date. The iPhone campaign is now entering its sixth year, and is up to 84 spots and counting. “Get a Mac” was beloved for its characters and wry humor. And while the iPhone work may lack that same level of charm—it is, at its heart, merely a series of product demonstrations—it is just as exquisitely produced and in many ways more varied. It’s hard to think of a product that’s had a greater impact on the culture in the past five years than the iPhone. Adweek has put together a gallery featuring every one of these fantastic ads; they are all in order of air date and each set of ads has a bit of background. If you have some time to kill, make sure to check them out. We have the original “Hello” ad for you below, just to whet your appetite.

Following a report from AllThingsD earlier today claiming that Apple will introduce the iPad 3 in the first week of March, The New York Times is now weighing in with its own sources corroborating claims of a faster processor and a “truly amazing” screen in a package nearly identical in appearance to the iPad 2.An Apple employee said that the version of the new iPad that is being tested inside the company is “essentially the same size and shape as the iPad 2,” with an improved and “truly amazing” screen. The tablet will include a faster processor, said the employee, who did not want to be identified because Apple is not fond of leaks. The claims line up with a number of previous rumors about the iPad 3′s improvements, with a high-resolution display being one of the most highly-anticipated upgrades for the new device. Earlier today, photos of a Sharp display claimed to be for the iPad 3 also surfaced, although the screen’s resolution can not be verified from the photos.

Following yesterday’s appearance of photos showing a purported iPad 3 back panel, a number of new images of a similar part have appeared online, joined by several new rumors. Citing unnamed sources, AllThingsD reports that Apple will debut the iPad 3 in the first week of March at a special event in San Francisco. The typically well-connected publication speculates that the event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and that the…
